What makes a religion a religion?

Just for the record, without a doubt, our religion deals with “deep and imponderable” matters and takes a position on the existence and importance of a supreme being.

Just because we advocate critical thinking – that is, we encourage our crew members to challenge the credibility and plausibility of all claims by religions and sciences alike (and of course, politicians, lawyers, doctors, teachers, army officers, police and judges), this does not mean we don’t take the “deep and imponderable” matters seriously.  We do!  And we want everyone to ponder them using rational thinking and logic so as to avoid believing crazy-nonsense which brings harm to sentient life forms.

Just because we laugh and promote pleasure and fun, these should not be criteria for judging us “not a religion”.  We are not a “spoof” or “satire” – we have no need of ridiculing other religions’ incredible myths.  They do just fine without our needing to say anything.

Why are religions not associated with fun and joy?  We think “deep and imponderable” matters require lots of laughter and humour and joy to counter-balance the existential blues when humans’ ponder the deeply imponderable.

Now go have some pasta with a rich sauce and a tasty beverage to wash all that pondering down deep.
